Monta Vista High School is a four-year comprehensive high school with an enrollment of almost 2,500 students in grades 9-12. Monta Vista is recognized nationally for the outstanding achievement of its students and the programs designed to support student success. Almost 100% of the seniors graduate, with 96% going on to college — 67% of those students to four-year colleges or universities.
Monta Vista High School has a reputation for rigorous academics and an extensive co-curricular program that is valued by the community. The staff takes great pride in maintaining a comprehensive program that builds character, valuing responsibility, respect and honesty. The successful elective programs and co-curricular activities reflect and support a balanced approach to education. The high school has an award winning Career Center with computerized college and career-search services open to parents every Thursday evening. The Associated Student Body Leadership Program has been recognized statewide as and exemplary student activities program. Athletic teams continue to win awards at the league, regional and state levels. A large open rally court is center stage for many student-organized activities—from September’s Club Day with more than 70 clubs promoting their club and its purpose, to regular noontime activities that develop school spirit. Following first semester, the students organize and run “Proud to be a Matador” week, which features activities that promote positive physical and emotional health for both students and staff.
Monta Vista High School staff continue to support innovative programs to enhance student learning including a growing AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) Program, two leadership classes, and the Study Buddies after school tutoring program. Students and staff members have joined forces to improve the Monta Vista High School website to create a source of information designed for the entire community. In both fall and spring, a series of evening informational meetings are held for students and parents covering topics such as high school life, co-curricular involvement, and the course selection and college application processes. These meetings are translated into Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. Monthly parent coffees provide an informal conversational setting for parents to meet with the principal and discuss points of interest. Quarterly newsletters are sent to every family and the PTA sends daily emails to parents with the daily bulletin and other important announcements. Communication between school and home is strengthened with on-line tools including School Loop, teacher generated web-sites, PTA and staff e-mail notifications, and a new student leadership newsletter. With strong parental support and outstanding early education provided by the Cupertino Union School District, Monta Vista High School students are among the highest achievers in California. Our community continues its commitment to excellence, integrity, and personalization, with the continued goal of: Educating the Whole Child and Educating Every Child. |
