Fremont Union High School District
INTRA-DISTRICT COUNCIL
Student Leaders from Cupertino, Fremont, Homestead, Lynbrook & Monta Vista High Schools

Intra-District Council, IDC is an organization comprised of the representatives of the five schools of the
Fremont Union High School District. Each school is represented by their ASB President and two IDC representatives.
In addition, An IDC President, the Student Board Member, and the Advisor sit on this council. IDC meets twice a month usually the first and third Mondays. The goal of IDC is to improve relations between schools, to lessen some of the rivalry that
sports create.  IDC also works to implement some of the programs that students want.  Any problems that the school’s
ASs or the students themselves have are discussed at IDC meetings.

FREMONT HIGH SCHOOL
Key Club held a 30 hour famine this past month where 50 to 60 students participated. This is a youth movement that involves students understanding the pains of hunger for 30 hours while participating in community service events. This ongoing movement raises awareness for malnourished children in Africa and draws in many donators. All funds raised went to the World Vision Organization and will help people in Africa. With Valentine's Day in a few days, Fremont's ASB has begun to work on the annual tradition of paper hearts. Every student and staff member at Fremont will have their name written on a red or pink paper heart that'll be posted on various posters on campus. The objective is to find your heart by the end of the day and ASB encourages everyone to keep them since cutting and writing on 2,000 hearts took a lot of hard work. Fremont would like to recognize and congratulate their cheerleading team, who just took 2nd place at Nationals.

MONTA VISTA HIGH SCHOOL
Monta Vista held their IDC Exchange at the end of January. Students from other schools especially liked two things:
      1. Monta Vista's large campus, which felt more like a college campus rather than a high school
      2. The overflowing gym packed with kids who attended the rally, not to mention the amount of school spirit
that was displayed instead of just class rivalry
A few weeks ago, Monta Vista held a Career Fair where firefighters, psychologists, and others came to talk to students about their occupations. Monta Vista would like to recognize their Chess team for placing first at a recent open chess tournament. They also wanted to congratulate their dance team, who attended State competitions this past weekend.

HOMESTEAD HIGH SCHOOL
Lisa Yao, Homestead's junior IDC Representative, will provide the following report.
Homestead will be hosting a Battle of the Sexes rally on Valentines Day.
Recognition: Congratulations to Homestead's Sciencebowl team for making it to Nationals in Washington D.C.

CUPERTINO HIGH SCHOOL
Cupertino, along with other high schools in California, held primary mock elections last Monday and Super Tuesday. Ballots were distributed to every sophomore, junior, and senior in class while freshmen came out to vote during lunch. Ballots displayed every candidate from the beginning of primaries in every party; thus, they included recent dropouts such as Giuliani. Cupertino students voted 63% for Obama to 29% for Clinton. Ron Paul won for the Republican side.
The annual tradition for Valentines at Cupertino involves buying friends and significant others a serenade. The Cupertino Choir practices in 8 separate serenade groups and will be assigned to students on Valentines. But instead of just singing, groups often dance and try to make the 3 minutes they get to disturb class as entertaining as possible. This year, the acapella men group will be singing "Kiss the Girl" from Disney's Ariel. The internationally known acapella group, Rockapella, will be performing at the Cupertino auditorium tomorrow night at 7PM. They welcome anybody from the district who would like to attend. Cupertino's drama department attended their first drama competition, the Lenaea Theatre Festival, in Sacramento two weeks ago. They would like to congratulate seniors Sinan Zafar and Eva Roa for their silver medal wins.

LYNBROOK HIGH SCHOOL
Lynbrook held Sadies last Friday on the 8th. The theme was Circus of the Night and the couple that was best dressed won a pair of Cirque du Soliel tickets to the new San Jose Kooza show. Lynbrook would like to recognize Brian Lin and Caroline Suen; both were semi-finalists in the recent Intel Science Talent Search and receive $1000 rewards. Lynbrook also hosted the Dominos Event last Saturday night. For those who don't know yet, our district joined together with a few other high schools in the Bay Area and China to each build displays of dominos that represented Chinese New Years and the upcoming Summer Olympics. Here are some photos of our display..
