Fremont Union High School District
INTRA-DISTRICT COUNCIL
Student Leaders from Cupertino, Fremont, Homestead, Lynbrook & Monta Vista High Schools

Intra-District Council, IDC is an organization comprised of the representatives of the five schools of the
Fremont Union High School District. Each school is represented by their ASB President and two IDC representatives.
In addition, An IDC President, the Student Board Member, and the Advisor sit on this council. IDC meets twice a month usually the first and third Mondays. The goal of IDC is to improve relations between schools, to lessen some of the rivalry that
sports create.  IDC also works to implement some of the programs that students want.  Any problems that the school’s
ASs or the students themselves have are discussed at IDC meetings.

11/6/07 Student Board Report by JingJing Xia, Cupertino High School Senior

At the last meeting I showed many photos from Cupertino's homecoming and since then, the four other schools have had theirs too. I understand these events are very unrelated to academics, but students feel that these are the experiences they will look back on most later in life. So, with the help of some photos, I will share with you how homecoming at Homestead, Monta Vista, Lynbrook, and Fremont turned out.

HOMESTEAD HIGH SCHOOL'S homecoming consisted of daily mini-spirit days that allowed students to come up with creative costumes. For example, one of the themes was Hollywood and students came as movie stars, "Hollywood," or even "holly wood" (please see photo to clear confusion). Other days included "Under the Sea" where students dressed up as SpongeBob or even the Titanic. After four mini spirit days, Homecoming ended on Friday with a parade in the afternoon and the game at night, which also showcased the court and floats.

LYNBROOK HIGH SCHOOL is different because instead of floats, each class put on a 25-minute skit with around three dances. Each class has the whole summer and the first two months of school to prepare so generally a lot of people are involved and every detail is refined. The overall theme for Lynbrook was Fictional Cities. An interesting homecoming tradition is to keep the senior's individual theme a complete secret from the rest of the school. Nobody else in the school knows which fictional city they chose until the day of their actual skit, which must be pretty hard since this is high school after all. Friday was Lynbrook High School's

homecoming rally and their IDC exchange, which I hope Mrs. Dirkmaat, Mr. Cheng, and Mr. Avvakumovits enjoyed. General feedback Lynbrook got from exchange students was that their rally was very well structured, it had a great upbeat atmosphere, the infamous Lynbrook drumline lived up to high standards, and that Lynbrook students seemed very mellow and laid-back which was different from the uptight and academically intense atmosphere others had imagined.
MONTA VISTA HIGH SCHOOL has a tradition of playing Powderpuff football as a part of their homecoming activities, but it's not necessarily the girls, playing on the field, who receive the most attention. Instead it's the boys who are 'cheerleaders' on the sidelines that become the main attraction. These male cheerleaders always kick off homecoming in good spirit by performing in front of the whole school to feminine songs such as those by Britney Spears. It definitely lightens the atmosphere from class compeitions. Some of the other schools really like these Powderpuff events and will try to incorporate them into their own schedules as an intramural activity.
The rest of Monta Vista's homecoming is very similar to Homestead's and they also ended Friday with floats. These floats (from the photos) are from the class of 2009 and 2008; the last one is with the 2008 homecoming court.
Finally, FREMONT HIGH SCHOOL also had their homecoming last week. Their theme was Ancient Civilizations and they took on both skits and floats, but they didn't have any overall photos uploaded yet. Fremont would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge their cheerleaders who went to the JAMZ Championship at Six Flags Marine World in mid-October and qualified to go to Nationals at Disneyland. Fremont is proud to inform that they placed first in their division.
