12/11/07 Student Board Report by JingJing Xia, Cupertino High School Senior FREMONT HIGH SCHOOL hosted an IDC Exchange last Friday, which was also the day of their Winter Rally. They are also hosting one of their annual holiday events called the Giving Tree. Students can volunteer to buy presents for underprivileged children by choosing from a tree decorated with ornaments that have a child’s name and wish list on them. This week, MONTA VISTA HIGH SCHOOL will host an event called FAFSA, which stands for Free and Fun Studying Adventure. During FAFSA, the school library will be open until 7pm. Teachers will come in to have review sessions with students; student tutors will be there to offer help' and food will also be available. This extensive study session is offered to help with finals next week. The class of 2010 is hosting a Secret Santa next week to bring the sophomores together under the holiday spirit. Monta Vista would like to recognize their Chess Team who placed 1st in a recent tournament. HOMESTEAD HIGH SCHOOL is making progress with their Canned Food Drive. On the second day of the event, they needed three SUVs and a truck to haul all the donations to their host. They would also like to recognize their Varsity Volleyball team. They made it all the way to the Norcal Finals in their league. They lost the final game, but Homestead is still very, very proud of the girls. CUPERTINO HIGH SCHOOL held their Winter Formal on Saturday at the Avalon Nightclub. A total of 583 students attended and it was a huge success. This Friday is their Winter Sports Rally and the theme is Vacation Spots. The Seniors have Disneyland, the Juniors have Mexico, the Sophomores have Swiss Alps, and the Freshmen have New York. LYNBROOK HIGH SCHOOL will have their Winter Formal on December 20th; the theme is “The Jungle.” Key Club also held a Fire Safety Week due to the recent events in Southern California. Guest speakers were invited to talk about fire safety issues. Lynbrook would like to recognize Charles Lin who went to China and placed in the international Kung Fu tournament.
