California is a governing member of the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC), one of two organizations charged with the task of developing assessments designed for the Common Core State Standards. The SBAC Assessment is a computer-adaptive summative assessment that will be given at the 11th grade year in English-Language Arts and Mathematics, beginning in the spring of 2015. The assessment includes a variety of item types such as selected response, short answer, and longer, multi-step performance tasks.
